Digital Citizenship Week This week we take time to build awareness with our students around the topic of digital citizenship. In this digital age it is more important than ever than we educate our children on the power of their digital tattoo. Please click here to visit Common Sense Media to learn more about how you can support this work at home.

Halloween - Thursday, October 31
All kids can dress up. Be mindful of costumes and especially those that require make-up. We are asking that kids are dressed up all day so simple is best. Children may want to go without the make-up or the bulky parts of their costumes for school. Young 5/Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd Grades will have Maker Stations in the morning.  Parties will be at various times and will be scheduled by classroom teachers. All parents are welcome to attend the parade which will be (weather permitting) outside. The parade will begin at 3:20pm and parents may check their kids out with the classroom teacher after the parade.

Picture Re-Take Day - Friday Oct. 25
Picture re-take day will be Friday, Oct. 25.  Pictures will be taken first thing in the morning and should take less than 1 hour.  If you would like your child's picture retaken, please send the original picture packet to school on the 25th.  The photography company will replace your original order with the new picture that is taken.

Picture forms were sent home with students who were absent on our original picture day.  These students will get their pictures taken even if no pictures are being ordered so that they receive a student ID/lunch card and can be included in the yearbook.

Pictures can still be ordered on-line at www.geskusphoto.com/fallorders and use the code: 3718MEZIJWYWLR.

Lincoln Bear Credit Union - Grand Opening - Thursday Oct. 24
Our Lincoln Bear Credit Union will have it's grand opening on Thursday, Oct. 24th.  The credit union will be open every Thursday morning from 8:00 to 8:30 outside the gym.  All students who make a deposit will be entered into a drawing for a once a month gift basket.  Account applications are available in the office if you have misplaced it.

Great Lakes Great Books Program

Each year, the Michigan Reading Association selects eight books in grades K-1, 2-3, 4-5, middle school, and high school to be a part of the Great Lakes Great Books awards program.  Books are nominated by community members across our state and a committee narrows the selection down to eight in each grade level group.  The eight books chosen are read by students and/or teachers throughout the fall and early winter.  All students participating then have an opportunity to vote on their top choice to win the award.

Students in grades K-3 will hear the stories either during their library times or in their classrooms.  Due to the length of the 4th and 5th grade selections, students may choose to read any of the books and will have a chance to vote if they've read at least three of the selected titles.  Those 4th and 5th grade students participating in book club this year will read two of the titles as part of their assigned reading.

This program is a great way for students to be exposed to high-quality literature and it gives kids an opportunity to express their opinions about their reading experiences. To see the books selected for each grade level group, please click the links below.  Titles and some book trailers can be viewed in each collection.
