The Annual Picnic is Back!

The Lincoln School Picnic is how we have wrapped up the year for decades!  Families bring their blankets, lawn chairs etc... and we spread out and visit while everyone eats and the kids play.  If you can help, please visit this link:

https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080A4FAFAF29A6FD0-endofyear1

COVID forced us to change our routine, but we are stepping back into some of our traditional practices.  The picnic is on Wednesday, June 8 on the playground from 5:00pm - 7:00pm with a Staff vs. 5th Grade Kickball Game at 6:00pm!

We have had a potluck in the past and hope to return to that by next year, but for this year, we have a good alternative...

At Lincoln School, we would normally have a potluck, but just to be safe, this year we are trying something different.  Families can choose to bring their own dinner or purchase a meal from the Hot Dog Cart.  As explained in the next paragraph, Lincoln students will get a meal for free. If a family wants to buy additional hot dog meals, they will cost $6 each.

Every Lincoln Student who attends, will be able to receive a ticket good for a Hot Dog Cart meal that includes a hot dog, chips and a drink and a ticket for a Cupcake from Mimi's Cupcakes.  Families will be able to purchase additional tickets at $6/ea for a hot dog meal as well as .

A Message to Lincoln School Families

 Dear Lincoln School Families,

Today we share our deepest sympathy and support for the students, staff, and families of Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. Our hearts are heavy with the weight of such a loss and our thoughts are with those left injured.

We wish to send our families and community members a reminder that there are ways to seek help if you or your student is experiencing distress. Across our state, schools participate in the OK2Say program. Additionally, there are mental health resources designed to support a variety of  challenges experienced by individuals of all ages as well as information from the Centers for Disease Control for children dealing with school emergencies

For families seeking a way to talk with their children about yesterday’s events, you may find the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) website to be a helpful starting point. Non-specific safety conversations may be more appropriate for younger students and may begin with  presentations such as these found on the Johns Hopkins site for K-2 grade and 3-5 grade safety in schools.  There are also many resources available on the SJPS Guidance & SEL site.

Additionally, please keep the following in mind:

Check-in to see how your student is feeling and talk about any existing concerns. Children may not bring up their concerns/feelings intuitively and may need to be asked  directly. This will help them feel cared for and safe.

Give reassuring facts about their safety. It is important to review safety protocols and  remind them about what they can do and what the adults around them will do to keep  them safe. This will reduce anxiety or worry about their well-being.

Consider your student's age. Younger children should be given brief, simple  information or be allowed to share their feelings with drawings or playing instead of just  talking.

Limit exposure to media. Media can cause secondary trauma and exaggerate the  students' sense of safety.

Model healthy behavior. Students are watching how adults consume media and how  they take care of themselves. They also monitor if adults are honest about their feelings and if they are actively engaged in healthy coping strategies

Maintain routines. Keeping a regular schedule is important and reestablishes a sense  of safety.

Please be assured that school safety continues to be a priority. In addition to safety practices, our staff consistently strives to support our students’ emotional well-being. If you feel your student needs additional support, please contact us

Respectfully,

Craig Hubble

Michael Wagner's Bear Den

Also known as "The Bear Den"

Before COVID, Lincoln PTO and a few staff worked to create a therapeutic space with a variety of equipment that would provide students with personalized sensory input.  The goal was to help children calm and focus themselves so they can be better prepared for learning and interacting with others.  With many delays due to the pandemic, the space is now utilized on a daily basis for sensory diet, work completion, daily start up strategies and rewards for meeting individual goals.  Michael Wagner's family has worked diligently since 2017 to bring awareness to mental health and Social Emotional Learning.  Our hope is that this room offers additional support for Lincoln students in these areas.

This is just one of the ways that PTO has supported our efforts to meet the needs of all children.  Check out the before and after pictures to see how we turned a dingy basement storage room into a fun and exciting space.

It's that time of year! Mrs. Berry, Mrs. Bacolor and I are beginning to get all of the books back on our shelves for the summer. We are so proud of all of the awesome reading the kids have done this year! We hope you have enjoyed all of the books your child has brought home to read with you ðŸ˜Š You can help us out by finding any Lincoln School library books at home and sending them in with your child! If you do not know what books are checked out to your child, you can ask your child's teacher for a print out, or talk with Mrs. Gruchot in the library. Thanks a bunch!
