Lincoln School News for October 4 - 8, 2021

Hello Lincoln Family,

If you haven't heard by now, I want to let you know that I am the staff member who tested positive for Covid.  I have no idea where I got it.  It's been a rough few days, but I am definitely feeling better this evening.  We are good here in the Hubble house and there is nothing we need, just please take the necessary steps to avoid this virus.

I will be out this week, still under quarantine and getting better.  I'm available via email and there will be other administrators filling in for me from time to time.  If I have failed to respond to you over the past few days, please reach out to me again.  I am afraid I may have missed some things.

Congratulations to everyone for an incredible Laps for Lincoln!  These funds help us to provide a huge list of amazing things for the students and families of Lincoln School.

Lory’s Place Peer Grief Support Group

We are so fortunate to have a resource like Lory’s Place here in our community!  Our Lincoln School community is fortunate to have the opportunity to partner with Lory’s Place in order to provide a peer grief support group within the school setting.

Lory’s Place Group is a peer grief support group that is offered to our Lincoln School students who have experienced the loss of a significant person or people in their lives.  This group is co-facilitated by Miss Von Behren, our school social worker, and a staff member from Lory’s Place.  This group will meet once per month beginning in October and through the month of May for not any longer than one hour on Wednesdays.  Should you and your child feel that this would be beneficial, please feel free to reach out to Melaina Von Behren: (269-926-3421) or bmvonbehren@sjschools.org

Multi-Tiered System of Support

We are proud to provide a multi-tiered system of support for all of our learners. In addition to teaching the general curriculum (tier I), we also prioritize time every day related to intervention and enrichment opportunities, both academic and social-emotional. As a member of our school community, your child may work with a member of our SMART team (Mrs. Crawford, Mrs. Kovnat, Mrs. Khalil/Dumke, Mrs. Mandarino), other grade level teachers, and/or Miss Von Behren (our school social worker) for tier II or III support. Should you have any questions about this, please reach out to Craig Hubble or your child's classroom teacher.

News From the Lunchroom

We would like to remind everyone that breakfast and lunch are FREE again this year to every St Joseph Public School student. Please try to remember to pre-order your student’s lunches when they are going to participate in lunch.  This helps speed up the morning lunch count process.  You will be allowed to order the Friday before the next week using www.sendmoneytoschool.com.

Due to the supply chain issues we are having with our vendors and food outages we will be providing a one week menu on our website and Principal blogs. Here is this week's lunch menu:

10/4/21 – Ham & cheese slider, GoGurt, Baked Cheetos, fruit selection and milk

10/5/21 – Mini pancakes, sausage, hash brown, fruit choice and milk

10/6/21 – Turkey Lunchable, carrot sticks, Rice Krispie treat, fruit choice and milk

10/7/21 – Walking taco with beef and cheese, refried beans, fruit choice and milk

10/8/21 – Stuffed crust cheese pizza, broccoli/cauliflower, fruit choice and milk

Please mark your calendars for the following classroom celebration days:

Halloween Costume Celebration: Oct. 29th

*We will have a costume parade around the playground at 3:15 p.m.  Families are welcome to come and take pictures - no background checks are needed for the outdoor parade session.

"Holidays - New Year New You" Parties: Dec 17th

*The Fine Arts Department at SJHS is planning a holiday concert for the afternoon. Like in past years, participation by grade level will be determined based on space in the auditorium.

Valentine's Day/Kindness Themed Celebrations: Feb 14th

*As a reminder, all volunteers must have a background check on file in the school office. These must be updated annually and take up to 30 days to process.

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Our fall Parent - Teacher conferences are being scheduled for next week and will continue through mid-November.  Your time may or may not be scheduled on one of the 1/2 days. We schedule appointments flexibly to honor our family's work & personal commitments.

Conferences are our chance to get connected as partners in your child's education and to share ideas for a successful school year.  We are offering both face-to-face and virtual options this year. Our goal is always 100% conference completion in the fall.  Please make every effort to attend the scheduled conference for your child and be sure to contact your child's teacher if you need to reschedule.

Student Illness Guidance
Because we are in the "high" transmission level in the county at this time, students exhibiting symptoms which are strong indicators of COVID-19 (temperature over 100.4 or feeling  feverish/chills, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose/congestion, muscle or body aches, headaches, fatigue, vomiting and/or diarrhea, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, new loss of taste or smell) must stay home for 10 days, unless a negative COVID-19 test result or a doctor’s note stating the student may return to school is provided to school authorities.

This information, as well as additional guidance, can be located on the COVID-19 Tab on our District website.
