Lincoln School News for Feb. 14- Feb. 21, 2022

“Love recognizes no barriers. It jumps hurdles, leaps fences, penetrates walls to arrive at its destination full of hope.

-MAYA ANGELOU

We encourage all families to visit the Positivity Project (P2) for Families site to explore the resources related to the character strength love. The password is "P2".

And now, for some tough love...
I know that available parking spaces are limited, especially when the snow gets in the way, but dropping and picking up in a way that is dangerous is never okay.  We are loosening up on door entry. Young 5 and K should still use the main entrance, but other grades can enter at 8:20am from any entrance door other than the main entrance.  If things do not improve, I will have to schedule SJ Public Safety to monitor and issue tickets.  Thank you for your help in advance to keep all our kids safe!

Here are some major points:
1. Doors open at 8:20am, tardy bell rings at 8:30am - your child should be in the classroom ready to go at 8:30am.
2.  The bus drive is for busses, if you want to drop and go, the south end off of Langley is best.
3.  DO NOT drop off or pick up by stopping on Orchard opposite of the bus drive.
4.  DO NOT drive and stop to pick up going the wrong way on Orchard (yes, people are actually doing this...)
5.  On Coles, please use the diagram below and let me know if you have questions.  The slant area is for parking, primarily for staff, but there are some spaces for others.  Directly behind the slant parking, you can also park and drop off or pick up.  The next lane on the left is a moving car lane and vehicles should NOT STOP and let kids get in or out.  Cars should wait until they can pull into the drop lane.  Also, pulling forward as far as you can makes things smoother, every child cannot be dropped right at the door...

DROP OFF AND PICK UP

1:  Young 5 and Kindergarten - Drop Off and Pick Up will remain in the front of the building (Orchard Avenue) and they will continue to stage for pick-up at 3:40pm.  If you have older children as well, you can have them meet you in the front of the building when they dismiss at 3:50pm.  Please make sure they know where to meet you and use the available parking

2:  4th and 5th Graders - If you only have children in 4th and/or 5th grade, continue to drop off and pick up on Morton Avenue where the sidewalk leads from the playground.  Students should use the Safety Patrol to cross the street when needed.

3:  1st through 3rd and older siblings - If you do not have a Y5/K student, you can enter from Langley onto Coles and follow

Valentine's Day at Lincoln School

February 14 is quickly approaching and of course, things this year will continue to be a little different.  Our plan is to hold off on the candy and packaged Valentines, and below are details for the week.

During the week of February 14 - 17, our Positivity Project (P2) activities will be focused on "Love."  Love means that you value close relationships with others and being close to people. The character strength of love represents the way we think, feel, and behave towards the people with whom we have close relationships.

Classes will have activities and lessons in their morning meetings that will take the place of the traditional card exchange and parties.  No need to send anything in from home, we will handle it all in-house.

If you want to look ahead at family activities and connections for that week, remember you can access the P2 for Families at https://posproject.org/p2-for-families/  The password is P2.

In addition, your child's classroom teacher may propose some additional celebrations so be sure to check out the classroom blogs!

From the Upton PTO

Dear Parents,

It’s hard to believe we’re entering into the second half of the school year already!

The Upton PTO (UPTO) is actively looking to fill 3 spots on their board as these dedicated volunteer’s students are graduating in June.

Please consider being a part of your student’s middle school experience!

Media Center News

As part of our March is Reading Month Celebration this year, students and staff will have the opportunity to hear from author Marc Tyler Nobleman on March 8. He is a self-described "author of books for all ages, speaker, and pop culture archaeologist." His presentation centers around the power of reading and research. In advance of his visit, we are partnering with Forever Books to offer a few of his books for purchase. Order forms will be sent home on Monday, February 14. You can also access the form here. If you are interested in ordering any of these books, please complete the order form and return it along with payment to school before February 23. Books will be signed by the author and given to students after Mr. Nobleman's visit.

News from the Lunch Room

We would like to remind everyone that breakfast and lunch are FREE again this year to every St Joseph Public School student.   Please try to remember to preorder your student’s lunches when they are going to participate in lunch.  This helps speed up the morning lunch count process.  You will be allowed to order the Friday before the next week using www.sendmoneytoschool.com.

Due to the supply chain issues we are having with our vendors and food outages we will be providing a one week menu on our website and Principal blogs on the Friday before the next week.   This will alleviate us having to make constant changes to a monthly menu and keep you better informed.
