Lincoln School News for December 2-6, 2019

December already?! It is hard to believe that we are already into this school year's second trimester and are approaching the Holiday season. One of the beautiful things about December is the amount of uninterrupted learning time. Tomorrow we enter three solid weeks of instruction prior to our winter break. Thank you for your support in keeping a learning focus leading up to the Holiday season. We have so much to accomplish before the New Year and are eager to dive in!

Lincoln’s Pancake breakfast is almost here!  Mark your calendars for Dec 14. for a morning filled with delicious food, great take-home crafts, and shopping at the Book Fair.  Don’t forget to turn in your RSVP and please click on the link below to volunteer for this fun-filled morning:

Social Emotional Learning Curriculum
We understand the importance of educating the whole child. This includes embedding social-emotional learning curriculum throughout the school day. Mrs. Jasiak and Mrs. VanHekken, our School Social Workers, along with our teachers and office staff, use common vocabulary across the school setting to assist students in problem-solving. Imagine the power of our partnership if you were able to refer to the same terms at home. Here at school we use phrases such as "following the group plan" to remind students that choosing their own activity is not expected at that time. In addition, we might ask students to use "flexible thinking" as opposed to "stuck thinking" when schedules change or they aren't able to have their first choice at that time. Please see the We Thinkers document below to learn about these terms.  We also posted the Social & Emotional Learning Competencies and Indicators as published by the Michigan Department of Education below. This is our guideline as we educate students in becoming independent problem-solvers. We appreciate your support!
