The Week Before Break!

I wish everyone Happy Holidays as we enter into this final week before break!  It is hard to believe that we are almost half-way through the year.  Take some time to enjoy your family and relax, I know I will.

Tuesday (tomorrow) is Ugly Sweater Day and Ice Skating Day at Howard Ice Arena.  All costs are covered so kids DO NOT need to bring any money.   Every child will have access to rental skates if needed and they will also get a Hot Chocolate.  Please make sure kids are dressed appropriately for Ice Skating!

Exciting news!  Starting in January, an after school Spanish class will be offered at Lincoln through a program called "I Heart Spanish."  Spaces for the program are limited so sign up soon if you’re interested.  Cost is $100 for eight, 45 minute classes.  Dates, times and registration can all be found on the link below:

A big thank you to all of the parents, staff, and student council volunteers for making last Saturday’s pancake breakfast a huge success!!  Thank you also to Country Kitchen for donating the ingredients for those delicious pancakes!

The Lost & Found is all set up in the hallway in front of the office.  Please try to come in and take a look.  Kids will be able to look through the items as well, things that are left over break will be donated.

On Friday, we have Dress Like an Elf Day and we will be taking 2nd through 5th graders to the high school first thing to watch the holiday concert at 9:00am.

Social Emotional Learning Curriculum
We understand the importance of educating the whole child. This includes embedding social-emotional learning curriculum throughout the school day. Mrs. Jasiak and Mrs. VanHekken, our School Social Workers, along with our teachers and office staff, use common vocabulary across the school setting to assist students in problem-solving. Imagine the power of our partnership if you were able to refer to the same terms at home. Here at school we use phrases such as "following the group plan" to remind students that choosing their own activity is not expected at that time. In addition, we might ask students to use "flexible thinking" as opposed to "stuck thinking" when schedules change or they aren't able to have their first choice at that time. Please see the We Thinkers document below to learn about these terms.  We also posted the Social & Emotional Learning Competencies and Indicators as published by the Michigan Department of Education below. This is our guideline as we educate students in becoming independent problem-solvers. We appreciate your support!
