Lincoln School News for Oct. 30-Nov. 3, 2017

Halloween is Tuesday, October 31.
All kids can dress up. Be mindful of costumes and especially those that require make-up. We are asking that kids are dressed up all day so simple is best. Children may want to go without the make-up or the bulky parts of their costumes for school. Parties will be at various times and will be scheduled by classroom teachers. All parents are welcome to attend the parade which (weather permitting) will be outside. The parade will begin at 3:20pm and parents may check their kids out with the classroom teacher after the parade.

Exciting News
Our very generous St. Joseph Public Schools Foundation recently approved a grant that will allow our elementary students time with an award winning children's author. In December, we will welcome Patricia Polacco to our schools.
In addition, the foundation awarded grants that will enable us to purchase large sets of books for classroom libraries, as well as offer a select number of students the opportunity to participate in a summer book study/field trip experience.
We are so grateful for the generosity and support of our Foundation!

Lincoln School News for Oct. 23-27, 2017

Announcements
The weather is cooling down and students should start to wear pants (not shorts) to school.  A good rule of thumb is, if the predicted temp is 65 degrees or warmer, then shorts are probably fine.  Any cooler and you should opt for pants.  Students still go outside unless the temps are in single digits (including windchill).

STUDENT SUPPORT GROUPS

Two student support groups are starting soon.  Staff from Lory's Place will be here to facilitate a grief support group for students.  Mrs. Jasiak will lead "Banana Splits" - a support group for students whose parents are separated or divorced.  If you would like your child to participate in either of these groups, please contact Mrs. Jasiak at cjasiak@sjschools.org by Wednesday, November 1st.

On Nov. 8, the 1st through 5th graders will be able to go to the High School Auditorium to watch a shortened performance of this year's musical, "The Wizard of Oz."  Classes will travel to and from the high school by bus in the morning before lunch.  If for any reason, you would not want your child to attend this performance, please write a note or send an email to me at chubble@sjschools.org

Attendance Notifications
This week attendance letters will be sent to any child who has missed school or been tardy 10% of our days or more (3 days). These letters are a reminder that your child's attendance is important. If your child misses school due to an illness for which he/she is seen by a doctor, please ask the doctor for a note to excuse the absence for the day. This will ensure the time away due to illness does not count against your child. Thank you!

October is Fire Prevention & Safety Month
This is a good time of year to review your at-home emergency procedures, including planned escape routes and meeting places. Please take a few minutes to check your smoke alarm batteries, too. Families needing smoke alarms are encouraged to contact the fire department. A little planning and preparation can make all the difference in saving your family from disaster.

Coat Collection
The Women's Service League is collecting gently used and new coats in the school foyer. Donated items will be distributed throughout the areas to help those in need stay warm this winter.

The Community Corkboard is your source to learn what activities are occurring around town that your child may want to be a part of. Check it out!

Lincoln News for Oct. 9-13, 2017

ANNOUNCEMENTS
After School Play
I would like to encourage families to keep students off the playground and east lawn (behind media center) after school. We have had a couple instances where children have stayed to play and should have gone home. The only way for us to be sure kids are on their way to their expected destination is to have the areas clear. Thank you for you cooperation.
