Letter from Dr. Bruce

Hello All -

With the flu season in full swing, the following letter will go out to parents later today.

While we are noticing more students going home sick, our absentee numbers are not out of the ordinary for this time of year. Our current districtwide attendance rate is above 90%. The state of Michigan does not recognize an illness issue until the district attendance average is below 75%.

To enhance our efforts against illness, our principals and teachers will continue to ask students to clean their hands each time they enter class, go to lunch, and use the restroom.  Moreover, our custodial team will collaborate with our principals and staff to pinpoint areas of the school buildings that have increased illness.  St. Joseph Public Schools will continue to keep our families aware of our status as we journey through flu season.

Most important for our families; please remember to keep students home for 24 hours after a high temperature returns to normal or vomiting has discontinued. This small amount of caution will prevent more students and staff from contracting the flu.

Thank you for all you do!

Sincerely,
Thomas S. Bruce , Ed. D.

St. Joseph Public Schools, MI

Lincoln School Update for Feb. 10-14, 2020

Wow! 100 days of learning and growing together already! It seems unbelievable that we've already surpassed the halfway point of the 2019-2020 school year.  Thank you for all of your support in helping our students stay focused on learning throughout the
next few months of instruction.

Flu Season
As you are probably aware, last week Lincoln's number of absent students (and staff) continued to climb due to illness.  Our lowest stats for the week still had us at 80% in attendance.  Each custodian in the district was contacted and are being extra diligent in disinfecting all touch points (desks, door handles, drinking fountains etc...).  Hopefully, this wave of virus will move on quickly, in the meantime, please discuss with your children the importance of hand-washing!
